Nepal Tourist Visa Process

Planning a trip to Nepal? Whether for leisure, business, or official purposes, securing the appropriate visa is essential for entering and traveling within the country legally. Here's a detailed guide on the various types of visas available for your visit to Nepal, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free experience.

Diplomatic Visa

Eligibility: Individuals on official diplomatic missions and their family members (spouses and children).

Issuing Authority: Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Nepal.

Application Process: Submit your application to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a recommendation from the relevant Government or Diplomatic Mission. You can also apply through the Immigration Officer at the port of entry.

Fee: None.

Duration: Can be extended multiple times depending on the length of the diplomatic mission.

Tourist Visa

Eligibility: Tourists visiting Nepal for holidays. Exceptions include citizens from Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Palestine, who are not eligible for a visa at the port of entry.

Issuing Authority: Immigration Officer at the port of entry, Diplomatic Missions, and Consulates of Nepal.

Application Process: Apply at the port of entry or at a Diplomatic Mission/Consulate. For extensions, contact the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu or the Immigration Office in Pokhara.

Fee:

  • 15-day visa: US $25
  • 30-day visa: US $40
  • 90-day visa: US $100
  • Multiple entries: Additional US $20

Duration: Can be extended multiple times up to a maximum of 150 days within one calendar year (January to December).

Marriage Visa

Eligibility: Individuals married to Nepalese citizens.

Issuing Authority: Director General, Department of Immigration.

Application Process: Submit your application to the Department of Immigration along with a Marriage Registration Certificate from the District Administration Office of Nepal. If married abroad, include an official letter certifying the marriage from the concerned Embassy in Nepal.

Duration: Issued for up to one year at a time.

Business Visa

Eligibility: Individuals conducting business in Nepal and their family members.

Issuing Authority: Director General, Department of Immigration.

Application Process: Submit your application to the Department of Immigration with a recommendation from the Department of Industry or Department of Commerce.

Duration: Typically issued for up to five years, based on recommendations.

Transit Visa

Eligibility: Individuals transiting through Nepal’s main airport.

Issuing Authority: Immigration Officer at the airport.

Application Process: Submit your application to the Immigration Officer at the airport.

Fee: US $5

Duration: Valid for 24 hours.

Non-Residential Visa

Eligibility: Individuals of Nepalese origin not residing in Nepal and their family members.

Issuing Authority: Director General, Department of Immigration.

Application Process: Submit your application to the Department of Immigration with a recommendation from relevant government agencies and a Nonresident Nepali Identity card issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Diplomatic Mission of Nepal.

Duration: Issued for up to ten years, but not more than one year at a time.

Residential Visa

Eligibility: Individuals contributing to the economy and society of Nepal or those who have invested at least US $100,000.

Issuing Authority: Director General, Department of Immigration.

Application Process: Submit your application to the Department of Immigration with relevant documents.

Duration: Issued for five years, but only one year at a time.

Study Visa

Eligibility: Individuals coming to study, teach, or conduct research at educational institutions in Nepal and their family members.

Issuing Authority: Director General, Department of Immigration.

Application Process: Submit your application to the Department of Immigration with a recommendation from the Ministry of Education, Government of Nepal.

Duration: Issued for one year at a time, with extensions available until the end of the study period.
